Tooth Loss Is The Price To Pay When You Don't Pay Attention To Swollen Gums
It really pays to pay attention to your teeth and gums because oral health is a window to overall health. Teeth and gums can be damaged by drinking soda and citrus drinks because phosphoric acid in soda and citric acid in citrus drinks can cause erosion of the tooth enamel and sugar content can cause cavities. Tooth enamel defects can be caused by trauma or infection. Nutritional deficiencies can also lead to tooth enamel irregularities, specially during infancy. Almost eighty percent of Americans over the age of 35 have gum disease. It can range from simple swollen gums to a more serious gum disease that can destroy the bones and supporting tissues of the teeth. Gum can bleed easily and untreated gingivitis can lead to periodontitis, in which the gums tend o pull away from teeth and from infected pockets. This gum condition has caused more and more adults to lost their teeth. A good oral hygiene program should include twice daily brushing, flossing, eating a balanced diet, limiting between-meal snacks, and regular visits to your dentist for professional cleaning and oral exams.
